Aerospace-standard tank and line testing

Aerospace-standard tank and line testing

For the most accurate, cost-effective and safest tank and line testing, there is only one name. MassTech.

E&S is the Master Licensee for MassTech International within the European Union, providing this highly efficient leak detection and loss control service using advanced sensors developed for the aerospace industry.

Avoiding all the downsides of existing conventional methods, the MassTech system is compact, light and highly portable; so it’s ideal for use in remote locations. There is no known leak scenario that it cannot detect, virtually any liquid can be tested and it can test tanks and pipes both above and below ground; either empty or containing any amount of product.

The MassTech computerised testing system is used by the world’s leading petroleum companies, and it can be combined with vapour recovery testing programme to provide a comprehensive service to retail site operators.

Expert analysis and certification

Testing protocols and certification

The toughest regime imposed on testing the integrity of storage tanks, adopted universally by all petroleum companies, is that set by the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) at a leak rate of 0.38 litres per hour (9 litres a day). The MassTech system, the first non-US system in the world to be listed by the US EPA, routinely tests down to 0.083 litres per hour (2 litres a day), and much less if required.

While we do the testing and issue the certificate, MassTech undertake the data analysis from information we email to one of their control centres. The separation of the testing company from the analysis company ensures complete impartiality. Our certificates show hard data (it is not just a tick box exercise), with the data being retained as a permanent record for future reference or dispute resolution.

Testing system

MassTech have built a worldwide reputation in leak detection and loss control, producing a testing and diagnostic regime giving an exceptionally high degree of accuracy. The computer-controlled system is entirely incorruptible, with every keystroke, data and time entry being recorded automatically, and retained to provide a secure audit trail.

The wetted and ullage parts of the tank are tested separately. Inert gas is normally used to exert a low ullage pressure. Advanced sensors record all data and proprietary algorithms are used to provide accurate analysis of actual leaks, potential leaks and even the size and tilt of the tank if desired.

Service throughout Europe

E&S conducts all MassTech tank, line and vapour recovery testing within the European Union, either directly, or through carefully selected local companies acting as sub-licensees. These companies provide the same high standards, competence and professionalism as does E&S in the UK, and have been given intensive training in our procedures, protocols and methods. They remain under our technical direction and control while MassTech is the arbiter of all test data gathered, and as is the case in the UK, E&S issues all formal test certificates.
